Tauranga Special School - Occupational Therapist

Maternity Leave - 1.0 FTE for up to a year (to be determined) from Term 3 2024 to Term 3 2025
Base School and including satellite classes in the greater Tauranga area

About this role

Tauranga Special School caters to the needs of students who have ORS verification and are aged 5 -21 years with intellectual, physical, emotional, sensory and/or behavioural disabilities.
Due to one of our team going on maternity leave we are seeking an occupational therapist to join our team in her absence.

To be successful you will need:

To be registered with OTBNZ and have a current practising certificate.
A passion for working with young people with challenging behaviour.
Experience in paediatric occupational therapy, assistive technology, sensory processing disorders, behavioural management, transitioning students into the community and writing applications for equipment.
To be able to deliver services to a diverse range of students and work to the Ministry of Education Service Standards. You will develop and implement occupational therapy programmes that work across the school day to support access to the school curriculum for individuals and groups.
A clean driver’s licence and a vehicle is essential.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and an ability to work effectively with children, young people and their families, as well as with teachers, teacher aides and other community agencies.
The ability to understand and apply the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and tangata whenuatanga.

About our school and the Specialist Team

Tauranga Special School base is located in the city and we have 6 satellite locations. Our Specialist team is made up of 3 occupational therapists, 1 physiotherapist, 4 speech-language therapists, 1 psychologist and two therapy assistants. The Specialist team is based together in the “Hub” at our base school but serves the whole school community. We work closely together and with the classroom teams to support our students.
