Tauranga Special School caters to the needs of students aged 5 -21 years with intellectual, physical, emotional, sensory and behavioural disabilities.

Due to our expanding roll we are seeking an additional Occupational Therapist to join our enthusiastic and dedicated team.

To be successful you will need:

  • To be registered with OTBNZ and have a current practising certificate.
  • A passion for working with young people with challenging behaviour is essential
  • Experience in paediatric occupational therapy, assistive technology, sensory processing disorders, behavioural management, transitioning students into the community and basic equipment is recommended.
  • To be able to deliver services to a diverse range of students and work to the Ministry of Education quality Service Standards. You will develop and implement occupational therapy programmes that work across the school day to support access to the school curriculum for individuals and groups.
  • A clean driver’s licence and a vehicle is essential.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and an ability to work effectively with children, young people and their families, as well as with teachers and other community agencies.
  • The ability to understand and apply the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and tangata whenuatanga.

About our school and the Specialist Team

Tauranga Special School base is located in the city and we have 4 satellite classes and two offsite community based campuses. We also have an Outreach teachers service to mainstream schools across our region.

Our Specialist Team is made up of a psychologist, a specialist teacher for ASD and behaviour, two occupational therapists, 2 physiotherapists, 4 speech language therapists and four therapy assistants.

The Specialist Team is based together in the “Hub” at our base school but serves the whole school community. We work closely together with the teaching and support staff to support our students.
